Canvas Settings

Defaults

Selection Properties

No room selected. Click a room, or switch to Draw mode and click/numpad to create one.
Select mode: click to select, drag to move, right-click for menu. Draw mode: click empty cell to place a room; with a room selected, press numpad 1-9 (5=down,0=up) to move/create in that direction.

Cartograph — Help

Modes

S— not bound; use the Select button in the toolbar to switch to Select mode
Select modeClick rooms to select. Shift+click to add to selection. Drag a room to move it. Drag empty space for a marquee selection box.
Draw modeClick an empty cell to create a room there. Click an existing room to select it as the draw cursor. Use numpad keys to extend the map from the cursor.

Numpad — Draw Mode

789NW / N / NE — move cursor & create a connected room 2 cells in that direction (same layer)

5Down a level — creates a vertical connection to the layer below (same x,y). Inserts a new layer if none exists.
0Up a level — creates a vertical connection to the layer above. Inserts a new top layer (renumbers) if already at layer 1.
Ctrl+dirSloped passage down — moves in compass direction but lands on the layer below.
Shift+dirSloped passage up — moves in compass direction but lands on the layer above.

Mouse

Left clickSelect a room (Select mode) or place/select a room (Draw mode). Clears connection selection.
Shift+clickAdd/remove a room from the current selection.
Drag roomMove the selected room(s). Undo-able.
Drag emptyMarquee-select all rooms within the drawn rectangle.
Dbl-clickSelect a connection line — shows its label and flag properties in the side panel.
Right-clickContext menu: Cut, Copy, Paste, Move, Delete.
Scroll wheelZoom in / out (50%–300%), synced with the Zoom slider.

Rooms

LabelFree text. Displayed on the canvas at the chosen anchor point.
AnchorWhere the label appears: inside the room, or outside on any of the 8 compass edges.
FlagsInfill — fills room with fill color. Trapped — red corner mark. Unsafe — yellow corner mark.
ColorsBorder and fill colors are per-room and override the defaults set in the Defaults panel.
DescriptionFree-form notes, not shown on canvas. Saved in JSON.

Connections

Dbl-click lineSelect a connection to edit its label, color, anchor, font size, and flags.
Label anchorabove / below — offset perpendicular to the line. center — on the midpoint. start / end — near each room.
LockedShown as a red marker on the corridor.
UnlockedShown as a green marker.
TrappedConnection is trapped.
DisarmableTrap can be disarmed.
HiddenRendered as a dashed line.

Layers

Layer selectSwitch the active layer. Only the active layer is drawn (unless Overlay all is checked).
Label fieldOptional name for the layer, shown in the dropdown and used in JPG export filenames.
+ LayerAdd a new layer below the current ones.
Overlay allShow all layers simultaneously. Non-active layers are rendered at the Opacity setting.
Numpad 5 / 0In draw mode: create a vertical up/down connection between the cursor room and the same x,y on the adjacent layer.

File & Export

New MapClears the canvas. Prompts for confirmation.
Save JSONDownloads the full map as mapname.json. Includes all layers, rooms, connections, labels, and settings.
Load JSONLoads a previously saved .json file. Replaces the current map.
Export JPGExports each layer as a separate mapname-layerN.jpg image. Grid is included if Show Grid is on.

Canvas Settings

Map nameDisplayed on the canvas in a medieval font and used as the save/export filename (NTFS-safe).
Room sizeSize in pixels of each grid cell. Connections are placed 2 cells apart, leaving a 1-cell corridor gap.
Line widthThickness of connection lines in pixels.
Grid styleDark — default dark theme. Graph paper — white background with light blue grid lines.
Shift ↑↓←→Pan the entire map on the canvas by one grid cell in that direction.
ZoomScale the canvas display (50%–300%). Also controlled by scroll wheel over the canvas.
